I have started hearing a wren having ago at next door's cats but still baffled on what sort of bird this is

House sparrows an extinct species round here. Have not seen one for over ten years now.Just seen one starling in my garden in the same ten years.

I thought the white mark above the eye and the brown rear made it a House Sparrow? But I dont think the beak is stout enough?
