I've never smelled aphids before, however, Mandevillea 'Alice Du Pont' flowers have a nice fragrance.

If you touch them by mistake the smell is horrible...
so bad it is known as "fede-fede" here as popular name...
it means something like "stinky-stinky".

It must an aphid that is native only to your region. The aphids here don't smell, as far as I know.

This is my favorite of the Mandevilla! It's Mandevillea 'Alice Du Pont'.
This is a very popular vine here in San Diego...however, the aphids love this vine, also.
