Its been a great flowerer over the summers. But it always gets diseased leaves and I cut it to the ground mid August every year so that it survives. But early summer this year I gave it Epsom salts as I was told it might be short of magnesium and its much healthier now.

I must try that .....

I am a great fan of a handful of ES on plants in clay ( great for the roses) as I think its difficult for plants to get the nutrients.

I must try that too on my roses, i've got a clematis similar to yours (might be the same) and i cut it down this year because of disease and mine is just like yours now ready for flowering again. I've just seen the weather going to be a warm but windy weekend so hopefully it will flower then

Like the sound of Epsom Salts Drc..Ive got loads of roses and clems...when do you advise giving it? Would now be the wrong time, or should I wait for spring?

Hi Tetrarch, Too late now - I dont use it except in the growing season from spring until August, on the whole if the leaves are yellowy I give the plant a handfull about every 6-8 weeks so about 3 times in the growing season? I still use the appropriate feed to but in my heavy clay I find they need the extra magnesium they get from the ES.

Mine are mainly in pots, so not clay soil..still I might give them a dose now and then. Thanks Drc.
