I teach the kids never to kill them same as I should teach them about spiders. Just seems to be a built in fear with the latter though. I can pick up snakes and not scared of rats but spiders , Yuk!!!.

When I was in Kenya a colleague of mine was bitten on the hinge of the top and bottom lip. A Kenyan Masai cook who worked with me called it a spiders kiss ( a spider searching for moisture ) My fellow colleague's face turned purple on the side of the bite. He was ill for weeks until the venom dispersed.
In the early 50s when a child in Singapore I was sleeping under a mosquito net in the bedroom that I shared with my younger brother. I woke up and by the light from the hallway I noticed this massive spider on top of the bed where my feet were. Every time I slowly pulled my feet towards me to get out of the bed the spider followed.
Being only five at the time I screamed for my mother's help. My bedroom door bust open with both my father and mother to the rescue. The massive spider was in fact a huge ball of elastic bands that I had been saving to make a bouncy ball. Since that day I have been terrified of spiders.
