Organic Fly Trap

Organic Fly Trap

My son brought this indoor fly trap on a special one off deal from B&Q. Acts as a nice barrier catching flies without the need of nasty sprays. I moved outside this summer and placed on a stone so the base of the pot was a few cms submerged under water in my small garden water feature. It grew enough to separate the plant into two by tipping out of the pot and gently working from underneath the plant. I did try an experiment for the leaner months of live food. I rehydrated a dehydrated meal worm and cut this in half to feed the traps and it seems to work. I don't know if any one else has noticed but if the trap gets greedy the trap it self will turn black and die. I cut the dead traps off using tweezers and a sharp pair of scissors . If you open the dead trap you'll find that the plant has fed well before it's self destruction for the survival of the mother plant. Pity you could not upload small videos to this site via a Youtube link to show time lapse video.

That's interesting Tommy - it had never occurred to me that these plants would need feeding if there was a shortage of flies.
