Love these plants, they flower on and off all summer.

This is a lovely one. Osteospermums are such a great asset to the garden.

This one isn't hardy, Dwyllis. I have O. jucundum which is hardy. I'm looking forward to seeing the other colours!

What a lovely flower!

Yes, I spotted these plants way back in late spring, but I only bought one. I'm really looking forward to seeing the new colours!

I love osteospernums. I was not aware of double ones. Thanks for showing it.

You're welcome. The mild weather has kept it flowering - luckily for me. :-)

Beautiful. My single one is still going strong, in fact, I may get some late cuttings off it tomorrow. I love this double one, but I am trying to increase the number of single flowers in the garden, with the insects in mind. I have so many double roses and clematis etc. This is lovely though B.

I didn't succeed with Osteo cuttings last year or previously either. It's strange, because I'm getting better at cuttings. :-))) (About time too! lol.)

Instead of pruning back your osteospernums to tidy them up for the winter. Anchor the straggly bits with some compost and they will root. You can then cut off the new plants to transplant elsewhere. It is a lot easier than cuttings.

That's funny because I've done cuttings twice and I'm not much of a propogator, but they've worked both times...beginners luck I should think! I took some off today, but it is hard to find non-flowering shoots at this time...we'll see what happens!

Scotsgran, I can propagate the Osteo. jucundum, that's easy-peasy as you rightly say, and I've filled gaps in my Osteo bed with nice big plants from cuttings. It's the non-hardy ones I don't succeed with. :-((
It's a bit late, but I might try taking cuttings from this one before it keels over when the frosts arrive. I have nothing to lose, have I?

Indeed. Worth a try. It's keeping them well ventilated that's the thing I think. I lost some from mould in the greenhouse last year, but a couple made it. Probably be better in the house on a window ledge do you think?
6 Nov, 2011
I have a heated propagator, Karen. I'm not allowed cuttings on window ledges...:-(

tbh I'm not a fan myself! :)) Don't like clutter...it's one of my 'life challenges' lol ;)

Well, I do take liberties. I have orchids on the two suitable sills, and all sorts of plants have found their way into the garden room. Heehee..

That's what we call 'pushing it' here! :))
8 Nov, 2011
Indeed it is... ;-)
I took two cuttings off this plant today - and poked them into a half and half grit/compost mix with a plastic bag cover. Fingers crossed!

:)) Worth a try.
