It's not a very common vine but not rare either.
The most common vine here would be Jasmine. Most people love the smell of the flowers and can't keep away from it. ;o)

Species of the genera: Pandorea and Podranea are extremely common here. They're also very tough.
Yes, the many species of Jasmine (Jasminum) are very widely grown here, also.
