Beautiful - is this what's known as a Christmas cactus?

Thanks Sticki and Sheilar!

Sticki - look to the right and you'll see the shadows (can't afford studio lighting) so that's why the flowers in the background are to the left.
I put this outdoors in a shady spot for the summer.

It is AKA the Christmas Cactus Sheilar.

Thats a nice pale pinky coloured one Meanie, Mine is flowering at the moment it's the ordinary common cerise coloured one ~ I took a cutting off it last year it's a very small baby but it has a bud on it so I have mother and child sitting side by side ......

only when you pointed it out, what i like is that delicate shell pink set against the black background ~ stunning contrast.

Thanks Amy - I love the colour of this one!
I broke a bit off accidently and just stuck it down the side of the pot. That took too.

That's the point Sticki - your eye is drawn away from the background shadow!

Pretty shot Meanie............

clever, i wouldnt have worked that out.

but on a macro picture you still have all of the bloom in focus ~ isnt that flower about 2" long?

15 Dec, 2011

Thanks Milky!

Sticki - It's mostly in focus even at full size. Turned the flash down to reduce the glare and shadow, set it at f10 to compensate for the low flash, and had to take the shot from a couple of feet away.

f8 is the most i can do.

Thanks Homebird!

Sticki - for a greater depth of field you need a high f number. But this lets less light through. So high f numbers are poor for close-ups!

Very nice colour and a great close up..I have never paid them much attention, but love that fringe with pollen on.

Another challenge for next year - to understand f numbers, iso and all the other bits.

I just take loads of pics Sticki.............My Mum and Stepdad were semi Pro. I use a little snap click and delete everything fuzzy or imperfect........like cat bird baths.

I do that too pimpernel, just wish I could grasp what all those other things mean.
It would be good to know - I couldn't have got a moon shot without trying!

17 Dec, 2011

Thanks Pimpernel!

I take and delete loads too - with digital processing it's inevitable.........

18 Dec, 2011

might be like that new scientific discovery that I dont understand when a particle can be in two places at once!!!!????
might be useful?

18 Dec, 2011

Have we discovered the parallel universe?

19 Dec, 2011

I don't know, perhaps that's the one I'm in??
Just heard bits on the radio but really don't know what's it's all about.
