Had to cut all these back, they were all dead & brown but going to plant climbers all along I think if they don`t grow back.

Actually Gattina ,the long fence at the back where the tree is has a kind of bank at the back, the actual caravan site field is about 3ft higher than my garden level & this helps to protect shrubs & plants from winds & cold. The beach is about half a mile in the opposite direction of the fence so not to much of a problem.

Good idea, but they do take a fair old time to grow, is there nothing more vigorous to fill the space in the meantime?

I don't think these are going to grow back, Kev. We have some almost exactly the same which the builders damaged about 5 years ago; the tops have grown in again, but the main trunks remain bare and are very ugly. I want to cut them down, as you've done, and attach trellis to it, going up a bit higher to block out the neighbours' ugly bushes, and then grow climbers up that.
I can see from your pictures that you garden is very open, and remembering what you said once about being near the sea, does it get strong salt-laden winds across it? If so, you will have to take that into account when choosing what to plant. I'm not very knowledgeable in that respect, but I'm sure lots of Goys will be. Why don't you post a question and see what people can suggest?
