All my Angel's Trumpets are blooming now...they typically bloom best in winter here in San Diego, CA. They love the cooler nights of winter. Photo taken Jan. 17, 2012.

Well Delonix,
We had our big freeze!!! I had to put plastic bags over my fragile plants!!!
Ran into a friend of mine who lives in a valley about a half hour drive from my house....-10C one night.
I saw huge Angle Trumpet's all wilted....and many many other large plants....I've never seen that before here.
Let's hope this is the first and last freeze for Corfu!!!

So sorry to hear about your big freeze! I know having a freeze can be very stressful when you have a lot of tender tropical plants. I used to have to deal with this problem, when I lived in the San Francisco Bay Area...it would happen about every 10 years. Typically, freeze close to the bay were not too common and didn't last very long...with the exception of the Dec. 1990 freeze (the worst ever recorded).

I am happy to report that today was a lot warmer and no frost to be found. My plants seem to all have survived but oohhhh they look awful.
You don't see ice very often here....and definitely not these types of temps. yuk.
How long did the 1990 freeze last??? I was still in NY then.

The big freeze of 1990 hit the whole western U.S. and lasted a week in the San Francisco Bay Area and much longer in other parts of the west (San Diego Area was not hit, although some of the far inland areas got pretty cold). It was the largest, coldest Artic outbreak in recorded history.
The big cold wave/freeze that hit Southern California was in Jan. of 2007. It was the coldest weather to hit the region in 60 years. I recorded one morning temp of 35ºF/1.7ºC. and two other mornings of 39ºF/3.9ºC. That's the coldest temps ever recorded in my neighborhood, which is extremely rare. Other inland ares of southern California were hit really hard with freezing temps.
