All my Anthuriums tend to bloom heaviest in winter than in summer. For some reason this has always happened for me...I always thought Anthuriums liked the heat of summer to bloom well. Photo taken Jan. 17, 2012.

Yes, it's my purple Anthurium...I've had it for 3 years. I'm going to divide all my Anthuriums this year. I've heard that after 3 or 4 years Anthuriums can decline if they're not divided and re-potted.

Even in the ground? I do like the purple.

They don't really like growing in the ground. I have them in pots, buried in the ground. They've been in this spot for more than a year...and really like this exposure. Sometimes the roots do grow into the ground. I pull them out so they don't get to established into the ground.
I love the purple one. It starts out purple and fades to a pinkish color.

I love these! Haven't seen any purple ones before though - only white, pink and red...strangely, the red ones cost more in Nigeria. They're on my wish list :))

That is strange, that the red ones cost the most. The red one is the true species. Of course, there's hundreds of varieties of red now.

I was going to put them in the ground, Andy and hope that they would multiply into a little clump...you don't think that would work, even in tropical climate?

They can grow in the ground, however, they are best used as an epiphyte in trees or in a planter (even in a wet tropical climate). They are all native to Central, South American tropical rain forest and all grow in trees or on rocks.
