My Pink-Mauve Cymbidium which usually blooms in winter. I've brought it back from near death, due to neglect last year. Photo taken Feb. 2, 2012.

I'm hoping next year it'll bloom, again.
Cymbidiums love to be root-bound -- they only need to re-potted every 7 or 8 years. When they're so tight they can't receive any water to their roots, is the perfect time to re-pot.
Here's how my plant used to look:

Oh yeah, I remember that one. Gorgeous and the same color as mine.

Yes, it's the same as yours.
I like the dark maroon or burgundy colored flowered variety. I see it all the time here for sale. Cymbidiums are the most likely the most widely grown orchid. However, some varieties can be expensive.

At least it'll bloom well next year!

Meanie:
I've seen these here and I don't like them. They have too much green-yellow in the flowers. Years ago, most of the Cymbidiums available looked like the one in that photo.

Glad you're taking care of it now!
My Cym is huge!!!! No flower spike though....I think I killed two of them when I re-potted a the wrong time!
In my defense, the plant had actually moved out of the pot....I couldn't even water it.
