I've built bigger ones now, all the way around the garden so I've got some sort of flower beds.

Now that's inspirational! I shall print off this picture and leave it at strategic places round the house so OH knows how easy they are to make! No excuses now! I've been badgering him to get cracking on some for about a year now. What do you have in the base, W? Is it on feet?

That was a problem Gattina, I didnt quite know what to use so I just layed 2 decking boards few inches apart, cut to a length of the planter so they held it off the ground slightly, then lined it with strong polythene making drainage holes by melting it so as it didnt rip any further.
I didnt fix them to the planter as I dont intend to move it & also because although I treated the wood, I didnt know how long it would last. Seems to be fine so far.
This will prob show clearer when I post the photos of the raised beds I made using the same method.

I would have thought it would last a pretty long time, Willi, if your carpentry and the polythene hold out as they should. Well done, you!
