I would like to plant it outside, but do not know. Will have to ask Bjs.

there are lots of camelias here, the garden centres have them, i noticed today that the bigger ones are outside but the smaller ones are still under cover ~ not heated ~ area.

I wouldn't risk it Katarina. Slight frost can damage flower buds, leaves. Even here in UK they need sheltered position. But why don't you keep it outside in spring/summer/autumn months and take it inside for winter?

I have a shelterd place, where I left this winter laurel bush. Even in spite of those bad frosts, it lives, leaves are still on. So maybe Camelia will prosper here as well. But I will start with its hardening since April till winter :)

how big is it katarina?

Looks like the spot can be perfect for Camelia as well. You can always put the fleece over the plants when temperature drops down. But definitely wait until the last frost will be gone:)

What you mean Sticki - laurel or camelia?

28 Feb, 2012

OK, sergant.

28 Feb, 2012

oh, sorry Katarina - don't mean to sound bossy:(

28 Feb, 2012

No, you didn´t :) I was joking.

oh, good. Working at garden centre I am giving a lot of advice to customers - this is probably the way I am at work, lol.

28 Feb, 2012

It is better to give advice then to prick client into eye.

Im getting confused now ~ i was talking about the plant in your photo ~ the camelia.

there are larger ones out in gardens too but i think only in situations where they avoid the frost ~ and in particular they advise NO early morning sun on them.

28 Feb, 2012

oh, no I wouldn't dare:-) there aren't many jobs here in Wales, I was lucky to find this one very quickly. So no offending customers in any way;)

28 Feb, 2012

Sorry, Sticki, my camelia is 40 cm high. In the place, about which we are talking, is shadow till early afternoon, there is some sun for about 3 hours in the afternoon, then again shade.
