The Zulu Fig is native to tropical Africa and is widely grown in parks and yards here. It will become a huge tree in time. Photo taken in Balboa Park, San Diego, CA. on March 15, 2012.

Thanks! Yes, many Ficus species are very widely grown here. They can become gigantic, massive trees! They need to be planted strategically or they'll take over a whole yard.

It's a shame we can't grow such a wide range of Ficus in the UK,they are lovely trees.

Yes, they are absolutely beautiful trees! Most are very tropical trees, though. Most can be grown in containers, but the roots need to be cut back constantly. The ones I have growing in the ground were not planted on purpose, the roots went through the bottom of the pots into the ground. This is a common thing which happens here.
I have found Ficus buxifolia (Congo Fig or Boxwood Fig) to to be the most manageable tree...as it doesn't grow as fast here in San Diego.

Nice collection of figs you have there ! Ficus religiosa and
bengalensis are very common over here, becomming huge trees.
