Artemisia and Rudbeckia

Thank you. I do wish that rudbeckia were perennial here. I may be purchasing again, or trying something new with the artimesia.

Artemisia is lovely surrounding peonies, especially pink ones... and when it blooms the soft yellow adds a warm top to the cool silvery clump. I like the smell of the leaves as well. When it emerges in the spring it forms a tight cushion of silver and looks amazing with emerging bulbs...but the best combo is the yellow leafed Spirea. (I think it's S. bumalda...could be wrong.) The pink of the spirea blossom is a wonderful contrast. In mid season when it gets a mite leggy and the blossoms have faded you can give it a good haircut and it comes right back. Thank you Lori. I was just thinking of adding a peony, perhaps that is just the thing. Although the artemisia never reaches blooming in our season. These are late fall shoots, still fresh tipped and juvenile. Do you cut yours to the ground in fall? I leave 3-6 inches of wood above the ground. We have a goldleaf spirea available here. One named midnight blush I've been eyeing, but they were in short supply. I love the idea of the gold silver and pink. :-)

check out my pics from two years ago...I have a pic of the combo, I think. I didn't cut the Artemisia back at all...I left it to die back and hold the leaves and snow as insulation until the next spring. The dry dead stems came off very easily right at the ground level...no fuss.
Do you have software,or does your camera have a selective feature that you can select a small shot for e/m etc. or a "compactor" to condense the files? (Sorry if my teminology is not exactly right...senior speak here...whatchamacallit and thingamajigs!) Will be on the look-out for your blogs.
