My potted Acer plant – This is my favorite plant in the garden.

I have been repotting this Acer for years, it first started as a small plant purchased from the garden centre for £15 and now sits within a 1 meter high pot. This picture was taken in 2011 but I think it may be time to plant in the ground?

Thank you, the pot was a bargin reduced from £400 to £50 because the paint was starting to flake off (originally white in colour). So I give it some tlc and painted it red.

Thanks Scotkat, I used Ronseal outdoor/weatherproof wood paint. Can't remember the colour name but i've still got the tin at the back of the shed, ill dig it out next time I'm in there.

Thats a Beauty

Very beautiful! :) It looks great in the pot Stephen. I planted one of mine in the soil and it's doing beautifully, but I've got five others in pots. I think they are happy enough there as long as you feed and water them regularly, and replace the top bit of the compost every year.

Thanks Karensusan63 - I have always watered and given it plenty of feed but never topped up the compost. I would prefer to leave the Acer in the pot another year so I will ensure the compost is topped up this time.

Must admit Stephen...not very good at doing that either myself! ;))

That is magnificent Stephen. I like the way youve landscaped it in too - not crowded with other plants. Are you sure it needs repotting? I have one about 20yrs old in a much smaller pot, it has sort of bonsaid itself!

I'm concerned that the Acer may die if left in the pot. I have always moved it into bigger pots every few years but now I can't get a much bigger pot. Ideally I would like it to say within this pot but I'm not sure if I should risk leaving it in here? Thank you for your comments, it's reassuring to hear you've had your Acer for 20 years. It must be like one of the family :)
