I can certainly vouch for this plant, will be sorry to lose ours, when we have to put in the new fencing.

I must say DD, it's hard when you have to lose a plant like this...they take forever to get going. I took this pic today for a friend who was asking for something to clothe her fence through the year. I might get a few more and shoehorn them in ! I ought to have got a lot more when we got these, but you live and learn.

Karen I notice you have metal ties? on the fence, do you use wire with these because I cannot see any? have recently bought more Clematis to put in front of the fence, and was wondering what to support them with.....

Yes, when I painted the fence a couple of years ago, I put eyes in along the whole length of it, and stretched wire along. I should have used stronger wire, but it was a good plan!

That is lovely Karen. I have never seen flowers on ours. I did not know they flowered. We put in eyes along our daughters fences. When we first did them. the screw in type were relatively cheap, but we now buy them in a big pack in Screw Fix at a fraction of the price in garden centres. They soon get covered over by the foliage. We used the stongest weight of garden wire with a green covering that we could find in a Wilkinsons type shop. Dotty daisy it would be a shame to lose your plant. Wrap it well in sacking and see if the men can work round it. It can then be refixed. We used that green 2" mesh where we needed support in our garden and it also acted as a deterent to the pheasants in places where they could come in to the garden. I like them but not keen on the destruction of plants trampled on without a care for the fact that the poor thing has been preparing to flower for a whole year and bang goes their chances when a cock pheasnt lands on them.

SG...it takes years and years. I seem to remember seeing them in my old garden, but we were there for 18 years. I saw them flowering on photos I was on tinternet the other day.

Silly me. I really am having too many senior moments today. I failed to spot the white flowers in the pic are on a different plant. Should have gone to Specsavers lol.

I used my staple gun to fix small pieces of wire or string to the fence then I could tie the shoots where I wanted to train them to go. I did the same with most of the shrubs/climbers on the fence until they were big enough to make their own way.

OH, a staple gun would be such a handy tool! :)

I bought it originally to re-upholster some kitchen chairs in Wilby but soon found a better use for it in the garden, along with all the good kitchen Knives etc....Lol

Yes, a good few of my knives have been used for cutting turves! lol
