Thats doing really well DD. Good to see they respond so well to being cut hard back. Mine won't need this for a good few years yet though!

I like the way elders respond to cutting back and cuttings are easy to get going. I moved my black elder too last autumn, cut it right back and its shooting again like yours.

HB they take very little time to settle, and when they do stand back lol Paul the more you cut them the thicker the wood becomes, Dawn that is true, we just put a cutting in the ground and away they grow...

I'll be interested to see how much mine grows this year...I planted it last year and it didn't grow much at all. I'm hoping that's because it was settling in, and our dreadful cold summer of course......hope it does get to 6' because then it will reach the top of the fence!

From experience Karen, I would say it will get going this year. Love Black Lace and S. racemosa 'Plumosa-Aurea' too.

Ah, thanks Dawn. My plumosa-aurea is still in a large pot but it is growing nicely. I might plant it in the ground this year....it will make brilliant fence cover! :)

It will Karen, the elders are so resilient, love them.
