Can anybody help?? My Mum says there was a large one growing in her childhood garden in Ireland.

It looks like Brachyglottis to me, commonly known as senecio. Many folk grow it for its foliage, the flowers remind me of dandelions, but they don't produce the fluffy seed-heads.

Thanks Xela! That's the one. It is a great plant looks wonderful all year round, grows at a nice pace and doesn't seem to be a victim of pests or mildew.
