An otherwise ordinary tree with a beautiful tiered shape. It seems every dogwood has something to offer

It is a native tree here so it seems pretty ordinary. The nursery I used to work at sold these and several other dogwoods not typically seen in garden centers. They do have a beautiful shape, much like Cornus controversa. There is one pagoda called 'Golden Shadows' that I think will be seen in garden centers more but we'll have to see.

I am surprised you haven't seen the Golden Shadows dogwood available yet. It's a nice yellow variegated leaf form.

It is not an ordinary tree! Pagoda dogwood is beautiful as it ages and it is still very rare in garden centers.
