Thanks! They typically don't look so good in Sunol (but this one in the shade of the building). It's gets too hot. They do better closer to the coast.

I fancy trying one of these at the north end of the garden - there is a large pine tree next door that should help protect it from the winter wet maybe.........

Good luck! I know they like cool, shady growing conditions. There's many in the San Francisco Bay Area, which look fantastic! Here in San Diego most look okay, at best (it's too warm). I think Dicksonia squarrosa, Cyathea cooperi (Australia tree fern), and Cyathea medullaris (New Zealand black tree fern) look much better here in San Diego.

Worth a punt I reckon................

Oh that is something, we are growing two Dicksonias Antarticas bought from different suppliers and they are not a bit alike, hoping one could be a Dicksonia fibrosa.....they are so slow, I might have to cheat and buy a large one with a proper trunk!!

They grow pretty fast in the San Francisco Bay Area. This one had a trunk 10ft./3.04m tall. I took this photo from the upper level of the building.

Wow they are very very slow here, the one has grown about three inches in two years!!
