Hollies

Nice thing about moving to this house is I can start from scratch. I can tell an old lady used to live here, nothing but yews and peonies. Evergreens are nice in front though so I decided to go with hollies on one side of the porch, gold mops and a few others for color on the other side.

Yes the branches do make nice winter arrangements! I like using winterberry holly best because the berries last a long time (as long as they are not put in water). I just got into growing those last year and they produce very large berries on bare stems that last most of the winter (if the birds don't eat them all)! I don't know how common they are there though, one of the best is Ilex verticillata 'Winter Red'.
