Once they start blooming they should put out flowers one after another...I'm guessing since this is your first season you have only one plant....I started with one and now have three...they flower on the newest part of the root...so yours is growing well! Very pretty colour, too.

Hi Lori - you're right - I've only had one flower at a time - coming up one after the other. Another flower came after this one. That is now gone. I can't see another bud yet, but there are lots of leaves coming up now. As this is my first water lilly, I've really not got a clue how to look after it. I don;t know what to do with it in winter or whether I should be repotting it or feeding it or anything! Still, at the moment it seems to be thriving on my ignorance!

Well, Sid, I don't claim expertise, either...but I can tell you what I have to do to keep mine... I bring them inside and put them in the brightest window in a 25 gal. aquarium along with two or three small goldfish to keep the tank clean and enrich the water for the plants. I've done this for five years now, and last winter it was a godsend that I had the little fish indoors...as we had a very deep fall of snow late in the winter (almost early spring) and my pond became icebound and my many fish (60+) all suffocated. So by that you can see that I'm learning my lessons as I go along... With the re-do on the pond the little guys think they're in fishy heaven and the lilies seem to be doing well in the new pond too.

Hi Lori - thanks for that info. Don't think we need to worry about snowfall here - rarely get any of the white stuff these days. I will have to do some research tho - I don't think they are usually taken indoors in the UK, but I'm not certain....

BTW, there is another bud just starting to surface :-)

Sorry, I neglected to say that I started that practice because I was afraid I'd lose my lilies if I left them sunk in the pond...which is the usual way to overwinter in our climate... pretty sure that's true for the UK as well.
