Azalea (Deep Red)

Azalea (Deep Red) (Azalea)

For my records
Very difficult to capture just how deep red these flowers are. This was a twiggy specimen stuck under a hedge when I moved here 5 years ago - looking much better now!

Oh, I love that, Scottish...!!
(thinking about starting project azalea now)

Thanks for your lovely comments....
Meadowland - keep feeding - it worked for this. If there weren't any plants round about it - it would look terrible as the shape is rather twisted but I can't throw it away because the colour is amazing!
Karen.....looking forward to 'Project Azalea' :)) I think they are a lot less fussy than Rhoddies!

Soooh, Scottish...can't you give it 'the chop' if it's a rhodie???

(project azalea already begun....but 'the chop' is already necessary!) ;)

I probably could K....but it only has one main stem with straggily branches on it....am too scared too!! It is quite old I think - all mossy at the base and you can see where someone has been chopping it down over the years with no sign of regrowth!
I take it you have a large Azalea to cut back?

Ooh, Scottish...someone here must know how to do the right 'chop'...

I've only rescued a small 'pot sized' azalea...cheap and loads of buds...but already needing a wee re-shape!!
...Where to cut????

We're not needing a birds and the bees lesson are we Meadowland ;))))

Don't know where to cut Karen have never pruned one! I think someone asked a question about it and they said after flowering but before the bud formed. You would be better asking

Yes, azalea project, J...but I'm only on plant number one...so far! lol!!

I'm going to put it in a planter and just leave it be...for now...
...and just make sure that I never, ever have a pair of scissors in my hand when I'm anywhere near it! lol! ;))

Karen - put a wee sign in the planter with it....
'THIS IS A SCISSOR FREE ZONE'
thanks HB :)
