I'm finally beginning to be happy with the way this garden looks!

I felt the same way Paul but you know what, i wouldn't trade shade for sun. Shade has its advantages: fewer weeds, first of all, and also with shade plants you tend to get good foliage as well. Maybe the flowers aren't as dramatic, but when those flowers die the plant still looks good.

growing up at my parents' house there was quite a bit of shade and I remember my mom always complaining about it, 'oh, it's shady, nothing will grow there.' So we always gardened in the sun and I was used to lots of colorful perennials. Also there wasn't the interest in natural or wildflower gardening that there is now. With this house there was no choice....had to get used to shade.
