Yes they're a very common plant here too, Andy. They get through our tropical conditions with no trouble at all.

Many Barleria species are native to the tropics.

We only ever see the obtusa varieties in the nurseries here. They are such a common plant used by our town council for streetside plantings. Very hardy things.

Yes, Barlerias are hardy and usually very drought tolerant (once established).
