Pyracantha...

Pyracantha...

...will have to be dealt with this year, at some point...

Oh, dear...I've been saying that for the last two years - but I'm scared!

It's a yeti, Paul!! ;))))

There are loads of nettles and stuff under there...where I'd like to have a bog-garden...one day - when I'm feeling brave! lol!!! :D

oh yes bog gardens are great!!!

Only after massive pyracanthas are tamed....lol!!! :D

Spectacular...Masses of berries to come.

Wow!! I'm not surprised you haven't 'dealt' with this yet! I have a couple of baby ones and I cut them back in late winter and they have responded beautifully and are now about to flower. I've no idea if that's when you are 'supposed' to prune them. After seeing Oliveoil's magnolia which she prunes every year (the books say to avoid pruning them) I am going back to 'gut' gardening!! :)) From now on, if I want to prune it and it feels right, I'm going for it!

Looks wonderful Karen, it'll be a great place for a bog garden too..

I know, Pim...but it's really out of hand...the land it's planted on is behind there, and is a metre higher up! It's way out of control! :(

The only reason I haven't gone for it is I don't have a suit of armour and a vizor, Karen...I really am scared...and all the time - it just keeps getting bigger! :/

There's a stream under there and an outlet from the spring...it could make a lovely bog garden, SL...

To me, that looks like a job for the winter when it's not too cold, but you can see what you're about because everything has died back.......

To me it looks like a job for someone else!!! ;)

But, at least I will be here next winter...and that pyracantha and the Indian bean tree can get the chop at the same time!!

I remember you commenting about doing this last year. Weren't you going to get 'whatshisname' to do it when you were away?
I chopped mine out of a trellis earlier this year - nowhere near as big as this - had to move it! I do not envy you this job ;)

I was, Scottish...and believe it or not - he did!!
But only a wee bit...and on the other side...lol!
I think I might have to get the 'tailleur' in...

29 May, 2012

Shame he didn't do it all....maybe he was far to cut to pieces to do anymore :)
What is a 'tailleur'?

Professional tree shaper, Scottish...
I don't know what they're called in English - I never had any need for one in Scotland...nothing ever grew that big! lol! ;)

Yes, it was probably too nasty a job for Camille...

A set of tree loppers and a pair of good gloves should be enough Karen. Take small managable bits off, grubbing the roots up will be the hard work.

30 May, 2012

Maybe I should get a set for OH's birthday, Pim...then he could do it when he's home again in July...lol! :))

The roots are not such a problem...it's actually growing behind a wall about a metre higher up there. I can get to that side...this is all overspill... :/

The temptation is to remove big pieces, but they are then hard to pull away and recut...if you just take little bits 1ft to 18 inches long and move the bits away from where you are working as you go. Lidl normally have a good set of loppers for under £20.

Yep! Good idea Pim...I just have to wait for Brico to re-open and get a new wheel barrow (someone "borrowed" mine while I was away)...but I think I'll still leave it for OH...
Some jobs are best delegated...lol ;)

If you get him to do this K it may well keep his mind of the budget topic :))

Good idea, Scottish! ;)))
