Did you leave it outside all winter?
I know in the ground it's super hardy, however, in a pot the roots will most likely freeze.

Twas in the ground. I reckon the ground was too shady if that makes sense - it never warmed up on the really cold days.

Sometimes it needs to be established a while for it to become hardier.
