This is so pretty Karen. Butterfly??
6 Jun, 2012
Yes, Lil...and it does quite look like one! ;))
6 Jun, 2012
I love all the Lavenders,Karen..never had this one though..not hardy enough here..
7 Jun, 2012
I don't have much luck with lavenders in general, Bloomer...so it'll be a miracle if it's still here next year ;))
7 Jun, 2012
Maybe you could overwinter it Karen ? or take some cuttings later on..it would be a shame to lose it ..
7 Jun, 2012
Cuttings are probably the answer, Bloomer...it's already a bit woody at the base...
7 Jun, 2012
First glance I thought it was covered in beasties but it is very unusual. I have not seen that one here. I like it.
10 Jun, 2012
Aha! That's exactly what I thought too, Sg...
I've had lots of trouble with lavender beetles in the past, so, I had to look closely to make sure that those little black bits were vegetable and not animal! lol!
10 Jun, 2012
I've never heard of Lavender beetles,Karen..I always thought they were quite safe from beasties..not noticed any on mine..I will be out there looking now ..as if I haven't enough to do ! Lol.
10 Jun, 2012
I'd never seen them before I came here, Bloomer...they're quite pretty little irridescent beetles...which devour lavender...
What amazes me is...you plant a lavender...and, overnight dozens of them arrive...
How do they all know it's there??? lol!
11 Jun, 2012
The perfume..? for pulling the male of the species maybe :o)...and don't be out there watching .! Lol.
11 Jun, 2012
I had never heard of lavender beetles either but the RHS has and the link below takes you to thier advice. Apparently their preferred herb is Rosemary but it also goes for lavender, sage and thyme. It has been in the uk since the mid 1990's and over the winter can eat a whole plant down to the roots. http://apps.rhs.org.uk/advicesearch/profile.aspx?pid=555
11 Jun, 2012
That's them, Sg!
During the summer, they do do a bit of damage...they eat around the stems, just below the flower - causing it to collapse...
...but, if you're a novice, you don't know what's worse to come!!!
11 Jun, 2012
Frightening.
12 Jun, 2012
Just had a look at these..not seen or heard of them before..I will be checking my Lavenders in future..but so far they have been ok..on the march up north, are they?
I will be waiting !
12 Jun, 2012
Not fast, though, Bloomer...slow, in fact...
I thought they looked lovely...and left them...!
How daft was that??? lol! :/
12 Jun, 2012
aw,bless...caring Karen..another new name for you ! Lol.I agree ,they are really pretty..and so was Lucretia Biorgia..probably ! Lol.
12 Jun, 2012
Aw, thanks Sandra...'caring' is not usually a word applied to me...although, I am!!!
And so was poor Lucretia...misunderstood...much like meself..........! lol! ;D
But, I have to add...I have never killed ANY of my relatives!!! LOL!
12 Jun, 2012
I'm sure you are,Karen..and poor Lucretia..a girl just can't win..:o)..Glad to hear the last bit....but have you ever wanted to ??? Lol...
12 Jun, 2012
I'm not answering that one, Bloomer............ ;D
13 Jun, 2012
Wise woman,Karen..:o) ..another grey day here, but fine..so it said, and I believe them ! A lot to do later ...have to go feed the Ducks, and play on the swings..I might even take my Grandson..hope he can push me high enough ! Lol...
13 Jun, 2012
Lol! I have to go and feed my ducks too...they're getting new plumage! And blue beaks!...Eggs soon, I hope!!
Have fun! And be careful if those swings are slippery - don't want you falling off!!! :D
13 Jun, 2012
Great your Ducks are doing so well,Karen..and thanks for your concern..I will go on the baby one,so I can't fall out :o)
13 Jun, 2012
Well...I seem to remember the last time I did that...I had trouble getting back out of it...
Oooh dear...not another "incident" with the emergency services............. ;))
13 Jun, 2012
