Daphne cuttings

Daphne cuttings

I don't know what I've been doing different this year but I have been having excellent results with cuttings. Almost 100% survival on my daphnes, out of 20-30 cuttings I have only lost 2.

I assume those have been potted on ,do you root them around a pot or in trays, and how humid do you keep them while they root, my weather is some what different to yours I am in the West of England,Just trying to get a feel of how you are treating that species

I stick the cuttings directly into those 4 packs in the picture when I do a lot of cuttings, if I do more than 10 cuttings at once they go in a tray but if I do a small number I put them in 2 inch pots. The larger pot size I use for rooting, the more perlite or grit I add to the mix.
As for humidity, it depends on how early in the season I take them. I consider this pretty early for daphnes so I keep them misted regularly and have plastic over the styrofoam coolers I use (they work great). They root easiest late June-August and I just mist them a couple times a day. Most daphnes are not all that difficult to root once you get timing down. Early season cuttings root faster (4-6 weeks depending on species) and late season cuttings usually 6-8 weeks.

Thanks for that information I wil try some in the next week and see how it works out.
I dont have the luxury of auto misting so will need to do it by hand.
Will tell you the outcome .

I have to mist cuttings by hand also but if you keep them in mostly shade and the container covered with plastic then you won't need to mist very often. Once or twice a day is usually enough to keep the leaves damp.

No problem, good luck with your cuttings! Which varieties are you trying to root?
