Just a Jacaranda would be enough ;)

I was stunned when I saw these trees!!! This is the village where my family is originally from (next village from where I live now, 7minutes with car). The girl who lives there told me her mom-in-law planted them years ago. I'm going back on Monday with my camera!
She asked me if I wanted a cutting.......would that work with the Jacaranda Delonix???

Softwood cuttings Alex... Do it ASAP

Alexandramou:
The Jacaranda tree is not easily grown from cuttings. If you can get one to grow it would bloom very quickly. Seedling Jacarandas takes 3 or 4 years to the first blooms. It is a pretty fast growing tree and the larger the tree the more spectacular and longer the bloom cycle.

Propagating by cuttings 86% success rate
Take 5-6 inch softwood cuttings from an immature tree in June. Stick the cuttings in a container with an ordinary mixture of sand and potting compost. Water the soil thoroughly and cover the container with plastic or glass to prevent drying out. The soil temperature should be 70°-77°F. A propagating box gives the best results. Until the new plants have formed roots they should be kept out of the sun. As soon as growth starts and roots begin to develop, give them more light. After about a month, re-pot into larger pots. For the first 14 days after re-potting, keep the plants in the shade before moving them to more light.
You can always go back and get some seed later if it doesn't work Alex ;)

I don't want to sounds discouraging, however, it's not as easy as you think, I've tried growing Jacarandas from cuttings many time without success. They usually dry up and die.

Delonix:
I have never tried, not much point over here..The 86% success rate is from scientific trials over a ten year period in Japan... A hot humid climate in summer I guess.
I take the bird in the hand approach, Alex may as well give it a shot and hope for the best as she has been offered the cuttings..and ask for some seed as back up. She seems to quite well with most of her plants. :)

I'll have to read about this...it sounds interesting. They must be growing the cuttings in a controlled climate greenhouse. We have pretty hot and humid weather here in inland San Diego in summer (especially during the monsoonal season). I think African Tulip tree (Spathodea campanulata) is easier (and much more tropical) to grow from cutting, it's in the same family, Bignoniaceae.
I do agree with you, it's always best to try. Alex may be lucky.
I have little Jacarandas trees popping up in the yard every year. I usually pull them out...although, sometimes I give them away. Jacaranda trees are extremely common here.

Very interesting reading....thanks for all the info guys.
I will probably try both ways....only problem is this a very mature tree.

Alexandramou:
You're welcome.
Yes, it's good to try both. Does this tree have seed pods?
How tall is this tree(s) in this photo?
I have seed pods on my tree, but they are all 40ft high. I saw some seed pods which had fallen, I was going to get you some seeds, but they where split.

I will have more details on Monday when I get nice a close to these trees. They looked veeeery tall from the street.

Alexandramou:
Just based on my observation of your photo: the Jacaranda tree looks like it's about the same size as the one in my front yard, 50ft/16m tall and 30ft/10m wide. Old Jacaranda trees can grow to more than 70ft/22m tall and spread 60ft/18m.

Tetrarch:
I've heard Jacaranda trees can be an easy bonsai. I don't think they bloom, though.

Oh no Delonix, must have flowers, such an unbelievable shade of purply lavender blue...it is so lovely it takes my breath away

It may not take you breath away when you have millions of little flowers all over your yard and side walk! lol! :>)
It's also very messy when it looses its leaves in mid to late winter...just before it starts to bloom. It's well worth it, though.

Alexandramou:
It looks like my front yard. lol! Although, I have an 80ft/25m tall Norfolk Island Pine (Araucaria heterophylla) in the front yard...and the Jacaranda is 50ft/16m tall.
