I've had to spray geraniums Rozanne and Ann Folkard for capsid bugs. They totally ruined these last year, heartbreaking, but so worried about wildlife. I bought a spray and did the deed last night just before it was dark, I hope it works I don't use chemicals but was desperate. Now I feel so guilty. The sparrows love those overgrown shrubs/trees in my neighbours garden and are forever hopping around eating insects in my garden along with my offerings and I'm terrified I'll harm them:-( The cutain is about 8' long, but you know how Ann Folkard spreads and Rozanne is enormous:-)

That's what I'm hoping for Cinders, it does say it shouldn't harm birds, but hard to believe:-(

Thanks Sheila, I've had Ann Folkard and Rozanne for years with never a problem...always fantastic. After the makeover, which included buying in tons of soil, this problem has occurred. Last hear they all looked terrible, flowers all deformed when they came. Apparently capsid bugs inject toxins into the leaves and flower buds.......it seems counter-intuitive doesn't it:-(

I feel like putting a curtain over my whole garden, so many bugs around this year.

Have you got the dreaded lily beetle Willi? I've only had a problem with those the last two years as well, but quite easy to spot and stamp on:-)

Hope it does the trick BA, horrid when this happens to plants at a time when they should just be at their best.

Not sure really Dd, I think so, but I didn't remove all affected growth as I would lose lots of flowers. There doesn't seem to be any extra damage so fingers crossed. I don't thing my nerves and conscience would allow me to spray them again!:-)

The trouble is BA the birds can get underneath it, but it might be enough to frighten them off. Hope so.
