It's got quite a comical face, really!

Ooooo... camouflage! looks like an alien as depicted in a 1950's sci-fi movie! Who is this...and what will it be eventually? ;-)

it looks like an XXXXXXX3:~ lol. would it be acceptable to approach one of the elders in the village? It may get hunted down and squished as a result of your inquiry! I know if someone brought me an "army worm" and asked innocently what it was, I'd squish first, and explain later!

Ach well Lori, this being Gascony, they would first of all try cooking and eating it, IF they cld find it, pretty well camouflaged is recruit XXXX5!

Hi Resi! Try googling catocala elocata, French Red Underwing...not many pics...but looks similar!

i think you have cracked it Karen, as you say very few pics, and none face-on, but i am happy with that one.
ps.i dont think 'french red underwings' are on the menu here ;~))

Strange to say, you're right, Resi...I think this one is only for the (large) birds! lol! ;)))
