It loves heat! However, excessive heat with low humidity burn the flowers. I've seen trees with burned flowers in late Sept and the beginning of October when we get the 110ºF (44ºC) weather.

Yes, we have the Santa Ana Wind season (which starts in mid-to-late September through May) it overlaps our winter. It bring windy, extremely dry and hot conditions to Southern California. It's not unusual for us to get to 90ºF (32ºC) or hotter in January here.

I have never heard of Santa Ana Wind s you get there must be awful for you all as well as the plants and being hot in January.

We get mostly here (in San Diego) what's called a SOSA (Sort of a Santa Ana). SOSA usually just brings the very hot and extremely dry weather conditions. You can look up Santa Ana Winds on the internet. It's very interesting; however, difficult to explain to people who don't live here. I tried in years past on GoY. Most people can't understand the oxymoron of summer conditions in the middle of winter. Lol! During a strong Santa Ana we can get temps to 80ºF (27ºC) before 8:00 am.(in January).

Yes, if you live closer to the equator it's definitely going to be warmer. San Diego is at 32º latitude, so it's a little closer to the equator than where you live. :>))
