I started training it up the wall last year as I cant stand seeing brick or fence panels, it was glorious and then this year, I got all excited as 2 of my wisterias flowered after waiting 5 years and they were so gorgeous I thought I would buy another one and train it up the house wall instead but that means that this Montana will have to go at some point which is a shame as its pretty, oh I wish I had room to plant all my favourite things!!!

Do you leave your montana as it is after flowering or do you trim it back? I have one which I have had in a container for years (poor plant - I'm very embarrased about this) but am planning to put it into the garden this year and just let it run riot (I want mine to look like yours does here). Is it growing on fencing on the wall?

Hi Phs,
I think you will see such a difference if it is planted in the ground and if you do it now you will really see the difference within a few weeks. I only started to grow that up the wall last year and as you can see it only took a couple of months. I only ever trim the new growth that I do not want so if I were you I would just leave it to do its thing until you have the effect which you want. I have another 2 growing on fences in my pictures, one is covering the garage. I started them off by twining them through trellis and now they seem to just cling to themselves and wrap themselves around there own stems. The one on the wall, my hubby put wires across and last year he trained it around them, but this year I have just left it and its just doing its own thing which is good. Let me know how you get on.
