I love cedars and they are not at all commonly seen in Michigan.

Me too, I had this one once but it died after the first winter in the ground. I have two Cedrus deodara 'Eisregen' that seem to tolerate the cold winters without any problems. As far as I know, the stenocoma cedar and a few of the tougher Cedrus deodara varieties are the only ones that will survive winter here. The one in the picture has a massive trunk so it must be pretty tough to have survived that long.
