Clematis

Our garden has several clematis and most tend to be the blousy type like this one, which I'm training in both directions from its position at the bottom of the conservatory downpipe (which waters the border). The roots are covered by a slate to keep them cool on this south-facing side and it seems very happy. Three-year-old wisteria on the right, which I grew from a cheap six-inch plant from the garden centre TLC corner - one very small flower this year. The clematis is also clambering through a similar sized summer jasmine.

Its three years old now. Gets a feed in the spring. I mix up a bucket full of 50% bonemeal, 50% chicken pellets and a packet of Phostrogen and go round the whole garden spreading under all my shrubs. I also have five compost bins, which get emptied at the same time to provide mulch to spread around the base (extra helpings for all the roses) - anything not rotted down just gets tossed back for next year.
