I've learnt a lot about trying to grow these over the years.
They are usually sold in spring and arrive looking like a vegetable starfish! Make a large shallow hole, put a bed of grit in the centre and place the growing bud over it before back filling with soil. They need a rich, well-drained soil in full sun and a sheltered position but will tolerate acid or alkaline conditions. Slugs and snails may be a problem and late frosts may damage early growth. They also don't like to be crowded by other plants but the foliage dies down after flowering and needs masking. If you can provide all this, they might flower for you.
