I bought one of these this year but no flowers yet. It says it should flower in spring so maybe next year?!

Yes, Gillian, mine didn't flower in its first year in the garden, either. As for eating the fruit - I think not! This should be regarded, I think, as a purely ornamental elderberry, with flowers which attract beneficial insects, and fruit which attracts and feeds birds. Luckily, we also have the good old green-leaved/white-flowered and edible/drinkable variety, too.
