It has been war this year between the Great Tits and the Sparrows for occupancy of our bird boxes.

How right you are. We have a number of bird boxes and they are well used.

The photo was taken on the 12th, last Thursday, and the sun did shine for a while. I find the shop bought bird boxes have big entry holes and they are useless for tiny birds. The bigger ones chase them away. We have some home made ones with smaller entries specially for the blue tits and the coal tits. We have one recommended for robins which has only half a front on it and the birds have never used it. OH has promised to make a row of four or five terraced bird boxes because the sparrows like to live close to their neighbours.

Just looking at this again - what beautiful bark on the tree!
Wonderful colour.

It is lovely bark. it is a birch tree. The peeling bark and the lichen against the seemingly polished base is very nice.

Oh bless, I expect it is hard to find accessible homes who's roof does not leak this year!
