I snip a fair bit off throughout the season to keep under control, then just as it shows a tiny bit of growth in spring, I hack it back to a few strong stems that Ive entwined through the arbour. About 3 ft each stem max. that I leave to grow. Its close to the path DD, so Im pretty brutal. If you have the space to let it get so high and then drop back on itself its pretty spectacular when it flowers, but I dont have the room for that. During growth I chop non flowering stems and shove them around the edge of a pot and hope for the best!!

Yep! mine gets the chop every year and I was really successful with a couple of cuttings from March/April growth 2 years ago. Getting really established now.
