Thanks! The cat was a Mother's Day gift from one of my sons.

what a lovely mothers day gift.

He gave me an owl to go with it, but that is in a different part of the garden. This is one I got many years ago. The remains of silver paint on it are a souvenir of the time he was stolen by some children (I imagine) and taken over the wall to the woods, where he was abandoned and rescued next day by OH, together with the remains of a garden chair (which was smashed over his head, judging by the paint smears we found) and another garden statue, which was beyond repair. It taught me to keep all artefacts up by the house, although the embankment is now so overgrown with brambles, holly and nettles we have had no "visitors" for years.

I am still intrigued by the care with which he was painted, then abandoned. Most of the paint has worn off now.

Is it (owl) from stone or sand?

I think it's just sand. I bought it second-hand years ago, despite the fact that it had a chipped ear. I loved it instantly - already a bit battered!

Well, sandstone sculptures were usually not made in large quantities and here for instance they are priced as originals.

Perhaps I have misled you, Katarina. I think on reflection it is cast concrete! which is rather cheap, and eventually weathers away! Sorry about that :-(
