Pimpernel I wont be removing them until about April next year,I always understood that you are s`posed to leave them for winter protection, although yours should be ok as its nowhere near winter yet, (I hope, lol.)

That advice has always puzzled me Sue, as the flowers and buds for next years plant will grow on different 'wood'. Many are deciduous and cope with no protection at all.

I`m beginning to wonder myself actually as Morgan broke my shrub right down last summmer and the flowers are better this year than they have been for a long time.....

If he broke it before or up to early June it gives the plant time to set more buds...after June it can't.

Lopped the flowers off mine Lincs, the rain had ruined them.
