Very different never heard of this, before I clicked on the full size image thought it was a picture of some green tomatoes :-)

I think it's rather jolly :p
But! According to Wikipedia, "in New Zealand, it is listed on the National Pest Plant Accord which identifies pest plants that are prohibited from sale, and commercial propagation and distribution". OMG!!

Lol....Does it grow big Tommy?...

The plant will grow up to 2-3 metres. Balooms (seed pods) won't get any bigger and the colour will turn into light brown later on.

Reminded me of a plant I grew a few years ago just for a laugh, gomphocarpus hairy balls, never seen anything like it,lol, starts off as a quite small white flower then inflates into seed pods just like this but hairy, lol.

I know the plant you're talking about Simbad! I saw them sold in a bouquet in the past. Quirky but (kind of) nice lol
Ah, there's one more look-alike! Seed pods of mine are a little bit similar to the ones of Chinese lantern plant, although the colour of the latter change from green to orange.
