That looks good. I have planted a sort of stumpery under trees with Ferns, Hosta and a couple of Sarcococcas, I have yet to find a large piece of wood to finish it off. Having seen the way you have grouped logs together it has given me ideas on what to look for.

these logs were used as chopping platforms...for splitting kindling. They are solid cross sections of a huge poplar tree. I found some slabs nearby and grouped it together in hopes that it will shelter salamanders/newts, toads and tree frogs.

I like it very much.

Thanks Drc! the lovely green ferns were there already! have a Blue Cadet (dwarf Hosta) and a recently acquired unlabelled hosta with white scented flowers...some wild ginger (Asarum canadense) that I found in a ditch down the road, and the Astilbes are from my other garden..they made the transition fairly well..have three more in the transfer bed...just waiting for things to sort themselves out before I try moving those in. brought some ajuga from the transfer bed and put in beside the huge rock. Hope it all takes!

I hope so too. I must go hunting for some wood or may be a rock for mine.

It's amazing how instantaneous electronic communication has fuzzed my thinking...I'm reading your post about hunting for rocks and logs/stumps and I'm thinking it really is too bad that I can't share. One of the log pieces weighs about 100 lbs. wonder what that would cost to mail? lol....silliness!

Oh shame it was a nice idea though.
