had to do some work to make this fellow visible. He sits quietly until another hummer comes to the feeder...then he zips out chip-chip-chipping...and puts it to flight! Had to take this shot with a very long lense, and it still isn't that great. But it does illustrate behaviour.

Aww poor babies. ...with such dry conditions. Which of your plants do they prefer?

The hummingbirds love the Jacaranda flowers! They also love my Mackaya bella, plumerias, giant tropical salvia (Brillantaisia guianensis), Markhamia lutea and my neighbor's very large bottlebrush tree which is on my side. In winter they love the bird-of-paradise flowers.

lol...bird of paradise in winter! my hummers are long gone by January...and a good thing too! Just had to refill the feeder...this may be the last refill as they usually disappear by early September.

Yes, the hummingbirds love the bird-of-paradise, Hong Kong Orchids tree flowers, Pyrosteigia vines, Bougainvillea, Calliandra, Hibiscus during the winter. They need to eat in winter, also. LOL! :>)

That's why they're a migratory bird...:-)...lol. My hibiscus has buds...just hope it makes it to blossom before the first frost...which may be only weeks away. Last year we had our first killing frost in the First Week of September! ...!!....

That's funny! Poor hummingbirds! :)
Frost in the first week of Sept., I can't imagine! Sept is typically when we have some of the hottest weather ever recorded in coastal California.

I love hummingbirds. I get a lot of them all year flying in my yard. They like to drink the water when I'm watering my plants.
