seems the new ladybirds are called harlequin native to south east Asia, they were introduced to control greenfly in greenhouses but learnt how to escape. in Ireland there is a warning about these harlequin ladybirds, that if left uncontrolled they will devastate our own native ones

Lovely photo. Heard the end of a talk on the radio about ladybirds. I think this is a native one? Some more dominant ones are coming from other countries and taking over. Apparently some worries about native ones becoming extinct. Does anyone have information about this and what we can we do (if anything). Don't want them to go the way of the red squirrel, even though the greys are cute.
