I love these too....I have tried for 2 years to grow them but no luck...someone said i should start them off indoors as they need a long season to flower...:>)

Thanks Sticki. I can't imagine why they shouldn't grow for you, Moti. Co. Down is not as cold we are. I plunk them in and they come up and bloom...the frost takes them and I dig the corms, dry them and store them for the next spring...couldn't be easier. Please don't give up on them!

i have a feeling i have planted some of these but they havent appeared! maybe the squirrels eat them??

I have lots of squirrels and chipmunks and I don't know for sure...but I don't think they eat them! One thing about the corms...they are not large and when planting them I take extra care to make sure they are right side up! lol...sounds silly, but...;-)

I love these too. I always get some unusual pest on these and gladiolas that appear just as the buds form and eat them off. I haven't found a way to stop them yet, but I keep trying. Maybe the new garden is warm enough I could try them in the ground, maybe that will make a difference.

That is very strange, Gt. Is it a worm..larvae...of some sort...or a beetle?
We've had our first killing frost last night and my dahlias are looking downcast! When I was surveying the frost damage this morning I was totally surprised to see a gladiolus budding! Imagine? The others have just finished and I thought that this one was going to be a "next year" one...I'm pulling for it...but we are expecting frost again tonight. the days are still warm..so perhaps I should go out and put a paper bag over it. :-) soon I'll have to dig the acidantheras and the calla lilies...

Dahlias always get it worst, just because they look so bad afterwards. I hope it stays mild enough to get that one gladiolus through and some digging done. I've got a week off coming up for my clean up. I'll be wearing winter clothes and definitely no digging. :-)

I cut the blossoms from my mini roses and the glad yesterday and I'm really happy that I did because this morning everything was black...dead..so sad. But the glad and the minis are blooming beside the computer for the next bit anyway. Today I did more digging in the stream bed and finally got the yellow Siberian Irises in the ground. Next is digging up the callas.
