Viburnum x burkwoodii

I have this R, and it is a bit of a spindly thing, but the flowers in early spring are wonderful and the scent is heavenly. I'd let it grow a few years and then start shaping it if I were you! :)

Yes that is probably a good idea but I don't know if I can even go an entire season without trimming everything at least once haha. When I worked in nursery growing, we'd cut everything back 2-4 times a month to keep the plants full and it makes the plants look great. Not a good idea for shrubs that need to produce flower buds though!

I have it as well, mine has buds already. Mine is huge (spindly as well) It was already large when we moved here 10 years ago. I like it and bought another one.

Aha R....so that's how they do it! Yes, Klahanie, mine has lovely buds on it now as well. :)

What do the buds look like? I see Spring buds on my dogwoods, mountain laurels and rhododendrons but they are hard to see on some plants (hydrangea). Are the flower buds large and obvious or are they hard to tell apart from the leaf buds?
I have another Viburnum that I know is a fragrant type but it has not flowered yet. I thought it was this one at first but the leaves are shorter and darker green. Maybe it is the variety 'Mohawk'?

No R, they are easy to see. They are quite well-formed little clusters of flowerbuds between a pair of leaves. I'll take a pic for you tomorrow!
